I have a problem.
And be honest with me…you have this problem too.
We see a new book series that looks awesome as hell, read the first book, and then get distracted by some new series that comes out (like a dog chasing a squirrel) and we never get around to finishing the series. Or maybe we don’t finish due to financial issues or some other reason. But we all do it. Don’t pretend you don’t. Yeah I know some of you wait until a series is finished and binge the whole thing, but not all of you. Not most of you.
And I don’t know about you, but I ALWAYS intend to go back and finish these series that I’ve neglected. Sometimes I do. Many times I don’t.
You know what I’ve been missing? Something to motivate me other than guilt. That is until Caitlin G. launched The Great Series Read Project over on her blog Realms of My Mind. Caitlin compiled a list of the series she’s started but not finished, then added series she’s completed or is up to date on, and then added some “candidate” series for the future. Her plan is to read one book a month back-to-back until she completes a series. Once she posted about it on her blog I told her I was stealing the idea. Since then Imyril over at There’s Always Room For One More, Lisa from Dear Geek Place, and Susy over at Susy’s Cozy World have joined the project. Below are links to their lists…
Imyrl (There’s Always Room For One More): Introducing The Great Series Read Project
Lisa (Dear Geek Place): The Great Series Read Project
Susy (Susy’s Cozy World): The Great Series Read Project!
I’ve been working on compiling my list for a couple weeks now. I’m slow I guess. But I’m finally done. Well…er…um…I’m done with two parts of it at least. What follows is my list of Series In Progress, and Up To Date Series. The series are underlined (sorted by series title) and books I’ve read are in bold without underlining.
The Series In Progress are series I’ve started but not finished where there are one or more books remaining to be read that have already been published. The Up To Date Series are series that I’m up to date on where there are additional books remaining to be published. At a later date I’ll be adding a list of Completed Series, DNF’d Series, and Candidate Series I want to start. Whew.
I’ll be adding a page to my blog in the coming days where I’ll maintain this list on an ongoing basis. Once that page is up I’ll add links to each of the books I’ve reviewed. So, here’s the list as it stands today. Let me know if you join The Great Series Read and let’s see what our lists have in common.

I hear you. I’m nervous about typing up my candidate series.

Wait till I add the series I want to start.

Do you re-read your old reviews to see if maybe a series simply isn’t worth continuing? You have a lot there and if you cut out even half of them, I bet your tbr would shrink quite a bit.

That’s a good question. No I don’t re-read the old reviews that much. It’s possible I might shave some of these off but I really want to read most of them. The question is whether I can read at least one book a month to work on this list. It might be a pipe dream.

Best of luck with this project! It’s such a great idea and I’ve written my list (much longer than I expected!) just not the post to go with it.

I’m gonna need it! Curious to see what your list looks like. I have a feeling most of us have long lists.

Ahem … yes, I’m sure we do. I was happier in my denial … 😁

My list of unfinished series is also way too long..
But I’ve made it a goal this year to finish some or get caught up, and to be honest it is going quite well so far 🙂

Awesome! I was telling someone else that I bet most of us have long lists. Are you going to post yours?

I posted a list last summer (I think), so it might be interesting to make a new one and see if anything has changed haha!

This is a great idea but I’m totally intimidated by just compiling all my unfinished series!

So was I. You should do it.

Honestly I prob should. I’m not sure the best way to go about it. The majority of my books are in boxes. I do have a catalog of all my books but I don’t know if just looking at my list would trigger what’s a series for me.

I had to run through my goodreads list. There it will tell you if it’s a series and you can pull up the list.

I don’t have everything on goodreads 🤣 I use librarything. I don’t think they make it that obvious. It’ll just take some extra legwork. I work better if I can just go through my shelves though.
